POW

Even if you’re not a supporter of John McCain’s run for the presidency, I encourage you to watch this footage of him taken while he was hospitalized as a prisoner of war. After seeing this, I was surprised that McCain doesn’t publicize stuff like this more, because I think it would really help his image. But I guess I’m glad that he doesn’t – I don’t think I’d like it if he did.

By the way, this is not a post trying to get you all to vote McCain, I was just touched by this side of a very prominent public figure (who I’m not really for or against) that I had never seen before.

Scary…

If this is true, I can’t figure out why nobody knows about it………….

It’s a Wonderful World

Hey, everybody. My mom found this today on a homeschooling website. She showed it to me and I thought it was worth sharing.

Lost and Found Camp Photos

I forgot that my Dad took these pictures on our trip this summer and didn’t find them ’till yesterday. I want to document everything I can from the trip, so I’m putting them up here, even if it’s mainly just for my sake. Memories…

Catching Up

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Well, school’s kinda made it hard for me to blog as much as I feel I should. For one thing, I don’t feel like I’m doing that much stuff that’s worth writing about, and for another thing, I really don’t have much extra time. Don’t get me wrong, school’s been good, and I’m enjoying my classes. Sometimes I just have to try not to slip into martyr mode – that usually just happens when I’m especially stressed, though.
So, I wanted to do some catching up. Not much to show you all, but I thought I’d get it done anyway.
Last Tuesday I went on a 26 mile bike ride with my homeschool assistance program. It was a great ride. Clear but cold. So I layered up and off we went. We took the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. We went 7 miles and then stopped at our halfway point. We went the rest of the 13 miles and all stopped for a picnic lunch. A couple teachers ’sagged’ (I don’t know how to spell this word, I’ve only ever heard it spoken, never seen it written out) and brought our packed lunches and stuff in the car. We biked back from the lunch point to the halfway point and from there to the start point again. That made a total of 26 miles. It was a great ride. Even going totally against the wind for the first 13 miles was exhilarating. I kept wondering what it would have felt like on one of these bikes that I’m looking into buying. If any of you want to check them out, look here for a Trek bike, and here for a Specialized bike. I stopped twice to take some pictures of the trail. Let me tell you that these look nothing like what the trail was like that day. Imagine the pictures 3 times brighter and the colors 10 times more vibrant. Of course, the biting air and the breeze generated by your own speed (the ride back was mostly with wind, but my speed made it’s own wind) boosted the wow factor. Enjoy this little glimpse into a couple hours of awesomeness.

See that kid in the red? I was in the lead until I stopped to take this picture and he passed me. I caught up to him pretty quick, though, when he stopped for a drink. :) I didn’t really try to race everyone, my pace just kept me ahead of everyone else.

This was at about mile 6 maybe. I got this on the way back, though, so it was really about mile 20.

Me at mile 20. Notice the hoodie and the neck warmer.

At the half way point (on the way there) we found this guy in the middle of the trail. I moved him off to the side. On the break on the way back, we saw that he was still there, so I moved him into the sun to get some warmth.

Another look at the trail from about mile 6/20. Looking from the bridge back the way we came. Notice the kid in red again. He caught up to me after I stopped.

Back at home that night. I was pleasantly tired.
